Admiration

There are many regrets that I carry, but not my children, they were brought to me for a reason.

I have great admiration for those that can make plans for the future and follow through with them.

I could not.

When I was going through high school they pushed college on you. You were made to believe that you needed to attend college to go anywhere in life.

My only problem: My family couldn’t afford to send me. My mom really wanted me to attend college (for all good reasons) and that’s when my student loans began. Problem was that I had no idea what I wanted to do.

I wasted a lot of time and money deciding on what to major in. Thankfully, after flunking out of the University, attending community college to get my GPA back up, and then re-enrolling in the University, I met a exceptionally wonderful counselor who helped me find my way.

I finished my Bachelor’s degree, gained a lot of knowledge, but unable to find a job after graduation. They required experience, and my experience was college.

I am now almost 40 years old and I still have yet to attain a job that utilizes my degree.

I have held many jobs that have paid the bills, but nothing that I have wanted to do or am passionate about doing.

Through these struggles I married a wonderful man and gained three beautiful children.

I may have bought a house that lacks a foundation and requires copious amounts of repairs, but I still try to hold onto that faith that it will get better and I will, someday, have the opportunity to accomplish those repairs.

I get to watch those beautiful children accomplish goals I never even imagined at their age, and being able to see that helps me hold onto that faith.

I may have struggles more than others, but I also know that I have been given opportunities more than others.

We all take different paths in life and one thing we need to remember is to just be kind. It really is that simple. If you graduated with a high college degree or if you are a plumber, there really is no difference other than the way you treat people. Because there will be a day those doctors and lawyers will need a plumber.

You may hold regrets, but the past is the past. Find something that brings light into your world and cherish it, regardless of what others may think.
