I recently read a quote by a Lakota Chief, Sitting Bull:
“The warrior is not someone who fights, for no one has a right to take another life. The warrior, for us, is the one who sacrifices himself for the the good of others. His task is take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, the children, the future of humanity.”
I’m not sure why this quote spoke to me, but I feel that it couldn’t be any more accurate.
Tribes were almost destroyed and yet he still knew what was of importance, when he so quickly could have given up.
My maternal grandfather was Native American, Crow and Cheyenne, and I don’t have a lot of information about that part of my family because he never wanted to share anything. Maybe it was for a reason, I’m not sure, but I do know that I feel connected in some way and I always have been.
